Arts & Integration

Mayfield Arts has been working in the area of Arts Education for people with learning disabilities for 15 years. We are recognised as one of the leaders in this field in Ireland.

Our approach to working with adults with learning disabilities is an inclusive one that focuses on integration to activities in the local community. Our approach is focused on the abilities and the unique creative expression of the individual. A balance is always sought between group process and collaborative learning and individual expression.

We have been active on networks and working groups developing modules and programmes to make arts education more accessible to people with learning disabilities.

Open Studios

Mayfield Arts runs open art studio workshops each Thursday morning. The sessions are open to everyone in the community interested in developing their individual creativity. We provide a relaxed supportive setting for these sessions where each participant is given support by a trained facilitator, while also sharing their experience and skills with the other participants.
Participants are of mixed abilities and ages and have widely varying degrees of experience.
These sessions are facilitated by a team of arts workers, with up to 25 participants the areas covered include a variety of creative skills from drawing & painting techniques to print. An end of term exhibition is organized at the arts centre to display their work.
Most materials are provided for the open sessions, a resource library is available, but participants bring their own materials if they want to specialise in a particular area. The sessions are €3 including teas and coffees.
