Creative Engagement Projects

Mayfield Arts has a strong connection of working on creative projects with young people from local Mayfield Schools. This year, we are running two Creative Engagement projects with Mayfield Community School and St. Patrick’s Girls School. Creative Engagement is a programme co-funded by the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Department of Education and Skills.

‘Respect’

Mayfield Community School transition year students are working on a large group piece developed around the theme of ‘Respect’ based on the school motto “Meas ar gach Craobh” (Respect for Every Branch) The group are focusing on elements such as embracing diversity, personal responsibility and celebrating differences.

‘Creative Reading Room’

‘Creative Reading Room’ is a Creative Engagement with transition years from St. Patrick’s Girls School which aims to encourage a love of reading and books while promoting visual art as a medium of expression and learning.

The school is in the process of creating a dedicated reading room for the students, we want the students to feel a sense of ownership over this space while instilling a sense of personal responsibility in the quest for knowledge. The students will ‘adorne’ this room with art pieces based on books and reading and using actual books as a source material, while learning new creative skills in print, mixed media and up-cycling.
